Tom Hanks updates us on status of presidential ‘campaign’ with Dwayne Johnson [Video]

Tom Hanks updates

In May, Dwayne Johnson and Tom Hanks delighted the electorate when they “announced” on Saturday Night Live that they would be on a ticket together for the 2020 U.S. presidential election (the Rock for prez, Hanks for veep).

Most assumed the affable actors were joking, even while admitting the duo formed a more attractive ticket than most politicians. But as Johnson has made the press rounds for his latest movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, he has sounded more and more convincing that he has actual political ambitions, even (genuinely) telling Ellen DeGeneres he’s “seriously considering” a presidential run.

So we asked presumed running mate Hanks for an update on their campaign while the Oscar winner promoted his latest film, The Post.

“I’m waiting to get the official bid from [Dwayne], he’s the boss,” Hanks said (watch above). “I’m totally ready to stand obediently behind him while he speaks at a lectern. Just look at him [glowingly].”

Asked if she’d endorse a ticket with Hanks on it, Hanks’s Post co-star Meryl Streep bought it. “Well, I think Tom for run for something,” she said. “He’s smarter than anybody, quicker, and more principled.”

The Post opens in limited release on Friday and nationwide on Jan. 12.
